questions & answers: itinerary check

is the jr pass right for us?

Is the JR pass right for us?

Hi there,

I am travelling with my partner from 6-23 August and we are unsure whether the JR pass is worthwhile?

A rough itinerary-

Tokyo 6-14 August (arriving at Narita)
Hakone 14-15 August
Kyoto 15-21 August
Tokyo 21-23 August (leaving from Haneda)

On a quick check it looks as if purchasing tickets individually may be better as we are staying in Shinjuku and the romance car seems like a direct option to Hanoke. We would want to travel in the premier class.

In addition your advice on how to travel from Hanoke to Kyoto would be most helpful.

Thanks so much,

H

Hi there,

A 7 day JR pass would be have been a good option if you made the return Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto - Tokyo in 7 days. You have the luxury of a bit more time everywhere, this does however mean that a 7 day JR Pass would not work and the best option would be to buy normal tickets as you travel.

Travel from Hakone to Kyoto is about 125minutes on the Hikari Shinkansen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you for your quick reply Daniel. What is the most direct route from Hakone to Kyoto, we have tried to look up the Hikari Shinkansen, but are a bit confused!?

The Shinkansen station for Hakone is called Odawara :) Search using that and you should find the correct route.
