Hello.

I would like to ask if it is worth to buy the 7 days JR pass - I am from overseas . I will be traveling with my 2 daughter (age 7 and 13). I found out that my travel date is coincide with long holiday in Japan. Do I need to make a reservation in advance? Especially the trip to Gala Yuzawa and the Osaka to Tokyo?

Here are my schedule:

April 30 arriving from Kansai

May 01 - going to Universal

May 02 - planning to go to a day trip to Kyoto/Nara then back to Osaka - or do you have a better suggestion which place to go if traveling with children.

May 03- departing from Osaka to Tokyo will be staying at Hotel Sunroute.

May 04 - we might go to sightseeing within Tokyo area shopping district, Dalver city.

May 05 - Planning to go to Gala Yuzawa

May 06 - Traveling to Mt. Fuji and Hakone

Assuming we travel our own - our plans is to go to Mt. Fuji 5th Station, take the ropeway in Hakone. - can this be possible if we have a JR pass or better to get the package tour of Japan Gray Line or JTB sunrise or take the Odakyu free pass?

May 07 - Staying in Tokyo

May 08 - go to Yokohama - to sea paradise

May 09 - go to Gotemba

May 10 - Stay in Disney hotel go to disney sea

May 11- Disney sea or disneyland

May 12- Depart disneyland hotel to Haneda airport?

Thank you. Hope you could assist me.

Hello there,

I checked your route to see if a 7 day JR Pass would be worth considering and yes you can make very good savings with one. Going from Osaka to Tokyo and a return trip to Gala yuzawa will pay for more than the pass it self. Any additional travel will also add to your savings.

I would advise using the JR Pass from May 03 - May 09 to make the best possible savings. In terms of reservations, Tokyo - Osaka may be busy and so may the train to Gala Yuzawa, so I would advise reservings them a day or two in advance. You can do so at any JR station.

For travel to Hakone, go with the Hakone Free Pass. You can use the JR Pass to travel to Odawara station. From there other transport is required to explore the Hakone area and the Free Pass makes for a good deal if you plan on traveling around in the area.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
