Hi,

I would like to know if the JR Pass is suitable and worthy for this kind of itinerary?
I'll be listing all the possible destinations we want to visit for our 5-day tour of Japan.
We'll be arriving first week of February 2016, is the winter climate duing this time really cold or can we still stroll outside?

Day 1 - Arrival at Kansai Airport by 8PM (We'll probably spend our night at the airport, is that possible?)
Day 2 - Travel to Shin-Osaka to catch the bullet train bound for Tokyo
- Tokyo tour: Akihabara, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Metropolitan Building, Shibuya, Tokyo Tower, Roponngi, etc.) Day 3 - Sanrio Puroland
- Catch the bullet train to Nagoya - Nagoya Castle - Bullet train to Kyoto Day 4 - Kyoto tour: visit temples and shrines in downtown Kyoto (possibly by walking: Golden Pavilion, Silver Temple, etc.) and Inari Shrine
Day 5 - Nara tour
- Travel back to Kansai Airport for the 9PM flight

Is this itinerary doable and will JR pass be useful?
Kindly suggest other options if you have something in mind that could help us minimize our expenses. We are budget travellers.
Thanks!

Regards,
Kaye

Hi Kaye,

Yes - the JR Pass will be helpful here. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return Osaka - Tokyo and you can make savings by using it for additional travel such as to Kansai Airport, local travel in Osaka/Tokyo, in Kyoto to Fushimi-Inari and to Nara.

While you just have 5 days, the itinerary work well and you will enough enough time to see all these places. I do suggest taking a early train to Tokyo, to get most out of your time there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thanks for your reply!
I'll be finalizing our itinerary and check the train timetable too so we can maximize our time in Japan.
I'm quite excited since this is our first time to visit Japan.
I believe February is winter season? Can we catch snow on some places?

Regards,
Kaye

Hi Kaye,

Yes there will be a very good chance that you'll see snow. You could also head to a snow resort if you like.

Gala Yuzawa is very accessible from Tokyo and covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps too :)

Hi Daniel-san,

That's good to know. :)
I'll check on Gala Yuzawa to see if I could fit it in our itinerary.

Arigatou gozaimasu!

Kaye
