Visiting Tokyo 4 days then we commence our train travel and ski leg as per below

Tokyo - Nagano (then ski 8 days)
day 9 Nagano - Kyoto
day 10 Kyoto - Hiroshima - Kyoto (day trip)
Day 11-12 sightsee around Kyoto days
Should we buy 6 passes ( presume JR pass for 14 days )or simply single one way tickets or can we buy a single one way through ticket for sector Nagano - Hiroshima and take overnight stopover in Kyoto ; travel to Hiroshima next morning on that ticket and then to buy a single ticket for each of us from Hiroshima to get back to hotel in Kyoto?

Total stay in Japan is 16 days and intend to buy the tourist subway card for Tokyo and a suica card for kyoto? is there a day Jr pass to use the yamanote line ? I intend for us to travel to/from airport is by limo bus due to suitcases!

Hi there,

It very much depends on where you will go after Kyoto, for instance will you fly out of Kansai Airport or return to Tokyo?

Please let me know and I can give you the best possible option(s).

The JR Pass does cover the Yamanote line and also the Narita Express, which is great for getting into Tokyo with suitcases. The Limo bus is not included.

Hope to hear from you!

Hi again!

Good to know, in that case I would stick with buying a 7 day JR Pass for travel from Nagano - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Kyoto. This will allow you to make nice savings compared to purchasing normal tickets. Any additional travel you would cover after that would also go towards your savings and makes for a nice bonus.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you . With purchase of JR pass does it cost extra for seat reservations as our family as we would like to travel in same carriage. Do you reserve seats at the station or can this be done online in advance using JR PASS.
If my son who particularly wants to travel the Nozomi train (Nagoya to Kyoto to Hiroshima) which is not possible I believe using JR pass, would we then be better buying the single ticket Nagano to Hiroshima (taking an overnight stopover in Kyoto ) continuing to Hiroshima following day on that original single ticket & then purchase a separate single ticket back to Kyoto from Hiroshima to fly out of Itami as planned.

Many thanks for help on this .

Hi again!

Seat reservations are included in the JR Pass, so you can seat together. Seat reservations can be made at any station in Japan but it is not possible to do so online.

It is true that the Nozomi train service is not included in the JR Pass you can however take the Hikari service instead. This is the same type of train (N700 series Shinkansen) but makes a couple more stops on the way.

Looking at costs I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass.
Daniel
