Hi

i will be going to japan from 13th november to 29 november with the itinerary as follows:
13 to 16 -> Tokyo
17 to 20 -> Osaka including one day side trip to nara
21 -> Osaka to Himeji (half day sight seeing) to Kinosaki Onsen
22 to 25 -> Kyoto
26 to 29 -> Tokyo

For this itinerary , does it worth it to purchase the JR pass (7 or 14 days) or the Kansai area wide pass..? Or do you have any recommendation for which one to buy..? Thanks in adavance!

Hi there,

Let's have a look at ticket prices and find out.

Tokyo - Osaka ¥ 14,140
Osaka - Nara (return) ¥ 1,600
Osaka - Himeji ¥ 2,980
Himeji - Kinosaki-Onsen ¥ 3,860
Kinosaki-Onsen - Kyoto ¥ 4,840
Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,600

Looking at ticket prices, a 7 day JR Pass would have been very useful if used for Tokyo - Osaka and Kyoto - Tokyo, however since this is more than 7 days apart, it is best to buy normal tickets for this part. Possibility you could make small savings with a Kansai Wide Pass for travel around Kansai. However it does not give you seat reservations, which is a deal-breaker for me.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
