Hi,

I'm interested in getting the 7-day Japan Rail Pass for travel in January, 2015, but
I'd like to know if the pass would work on this route:

Tokyo - Nagano - Kyoto - Mt. Fuji - Tokyo.

Thanks

Hi there,

Yes the JR Pass will work very well here. Only for travel around Fuji is it that additional tickets may be required. However this is completely depended on where exactly you'd wish to visit around the Fuji area.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the response.
I was wondering if there are any fees I need to pay on top of the JR pass when taking Shinkansen. For example, when using hyperdia, it shows the base fare and reservation fee for seats. Do I need to pay these or are they free with the pass?

I'm also interested in going to Miyajima. Do u know if the ferry service from Hiroshima to Miyajima (vice versa) is included in the pass?

It seems that one-way train ride from/to Haneda Airport, for example, is included in the pass as per previous questions, but I was wondering what like I can take to get to central Tokyo. Is the Monorail our only option?

Thank you so much,

Hi there,

All fares displayed in Hyperdia are covered by the JRPass, this includes the Seat Fee and seat reservation fee. So enjoy your trip without any additional costs!

The Ferry is also included in the JR Pass. Just show it when going aboard.

Travel to/from Haneda is also covered. The first part between Haneda Airport - Hamamatsucho is traveled by the Tokyo Monorail, from Hamamatsucho you may board different JR trains going into Tokyo, this includes the Yamanote loop line. There are also buses and such traveling from Haneda, these are not covered.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Perfect. Do you recommend making seat reservations for travel from January 13-20? or is this a low season that I shouldn't really worry about?

If I wanna make seat reservations, can I do this online? Which website do I go to?

Lastly, does JR pass have an office inside Haneda airport where I can activate my pass?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

January 13-20 should not be too busy and making reservations on the day of departure should be no problem!

Seat reservations can be made in person at any JR Station, it is not possible to do so online.

The JR Pass can be activated directly at the JR counter at Haneda Airport, the arrival hall is pretty small, just follow the signs with Monorail and you can't miss it!

Hope this helps too :)
Daniel
