Cost saving using JR Pass Tokyo-Hakone-Kyoto-Osaka?

Hi guys, I will be traveling to Japan with these 4 destinations in mind. Would it be cost saving if I buy the JR Pass for this itinerary?

Day 1-2: TOKYO

Day 3: HAKONE

Day 4-5: KYOTO

Day 6-7: OSAKA

Your help and comments are appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there,

For this itinerary it is better to buy normal tickets during travel. The route you will travel basically is a one way route to Osaka with two great stops in between. If you return to Osaka to Tokyo, then a 7 day JR Pass would be a great option. Otherwise, purchase normal tickets during traveling.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for your quick reply, Daniel-san! By normal tickets, what type of train tickets (slow, limited express...) would you recommend for effective cost and travel time, especially from Hakone to Kyoto? Taking into consideration the travel from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo, within the city and in Osaka, Kyoto-Osaka route and the above mentioned itinerary, would it still be cost saving if I buy seperate tickets?

Hi again!

I mean normal tickets, you would buy without the JR Pass. This can be local or limited express tickets. From Hakone - Kyoto, I would advise the bullet train. There's no other way of traveling that convenient and fast.

While the difference is not that big, normal tickets will cost less than a JR Pass.
