Hi I am traveling to Fukuoka in October for 14 days with my mom 83 years old and my daughter 23 years old and brother.
I would like to travel from Fukuoka using the Shinkansen Oct 21-Oct 25/26 to go north and visit Osaka, Kyoto and mt Fuji if possible. I am flexible about locations and duration.
Can you suggest the best route/train and time in each area please?
I would also appreciate hotel near train station or tour advice if possible.
Thank you very much!

Hi there,

Seeing that your travel party includes 3 generations, I can imagine that you may want to take it slowly. This way you can also get a good feel of the local atmosphere for the cities you visit.

Is Hiroshima your starting point or do you travel there from somewhere else in Japan? Going up to Tokyo, I would suggest a stop at Hiroshima for 1-2 days before going on to Osaka/Kyoto. These two are very close together so you can make your base at either city. I recommend 5-7 days here. On the way from Hiroshima to Oaska/Kyoto a great stop is Himeji, you can break up your travel and enjoy Himeji castle for a couple of hours before travelling on.

For Fuji, there are a couple of options. We have a detailed post here. My personal recommendation would be to visit the Hakone Area, it has a direct station (Odawara station) from Kyoto, from where you can explore the area and have a good view of Fuji, permitting good weather.

From Odawara you can also easily travel to Tokyo or back to Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel.
Can I use my JR train pass to travel from Odawara to Hakone by train or do you have to travel by a different train system or bus? Can you comment on the cost of this part of the trip please?
Do you know how long it usually takes to travel back and forth between the two areas?
Thank you very much for your guidance.

Hi again,

Odawara is the start of Hakone, however from there other non-JR transport is required to explore the area.

Have a look at this website for details on how to natigate Hakone.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
