My family and I are travelling to Japan in April for 2 weeks. Could you please advise the best JR pass for our itinerary? Our children are 14 years and 11 years.

Tokyo for 3 days with a day trip to Nikko
Takayama for 2 days
Kyoto for 5 days with days trips to Osaka, Hiroshima|Mijajima
Tokyo for 3 days with a possible day trip to Mt Fuji

Also, what is the best way to get to Tokyo from Narita Airport (and return)?

Thank you.

Hi there,

I think a 14 day JR Pass will be the best option. Nearly all your trips are quite expensive without a JR Pass and the JR Pass will cover travel to all the cities you wish to go to. You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

For travel to and from Narita Airport, I recommend using the Narita Express. This is by far the fastest and most convenient option. Only downside is that it is pretty pricey, good thing it is included in the JR Pass :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
