Hi,

I will be arriving at Osaka on 17th April and leaving from Tokyo on 26th April.
My itinerary as below:

Day 1: Arrive Kansai airport morning. Get to Kyoto and travel around kyoto..
Day 2: Kyoto tour. Travel to Nagoya at night.
(Is it better to stay in Osaka and make day trips to Kyoto for Day 1 and 2?) Day 3: Attend wedding at Nagoya in the morning till night.
Day 4: Morning Nagoya>Kyoto. Continue Kyoto tour.
Day 5: Nara day trip.
Day 6: Kyoto>Hakone
(Not sure how to travel around Hakone?) Day 7: Morning Hakone>Tokyo. Tokyo tour
Day 8: Tokyo.
Day 9. Leave from Narita Airport.

I am unsure how a 7 day pass would fit into the above itinerary or a 14 days pass would be better?
I am open to suggestions as my plans are not fixed yet. Basically I want to visit Kyoto, attend wedding at nagoya, Nara, Hakone (Optional), Tokyo.

Please advise!

Hi,

Sorry repost. 10 days actually.

My itinerary as below:

Day 1: Arrive Kansai airport morning. Get to Kyoto and travel around kyoto..
Day 2: Kyoto tour. Travel to Nagoya at night.

Day 3: Attend wedding at Nagoya in the morning till night.
Day 4: Morning Nagoya>Kyoto. Continue Kyoto tour.
Day 5: Nara day trip.
Day 6: Kyoto>Hakone
Day 7: Hakone>Tokyo
Day 8-10: Tokyo. Leave from Narita at night.

I am unsure how a JR pass will fit into the schedule or would single tickets be better?
I am open to suggestions as my plans are not fixed yet. Basically I want to visit Kyoto, attend wedding at nagoya, Nara, Hakone (Optional), Tokyo.

Hi there,

Thank you for the extra post clarifying things. I've made a small list of ticket prices below to give you an idea of prices involved and also to see if a JR Pass would be beneficial.

Kansai Airport - Kyoto ¥ 3,480
Kyoto - Nagoya ¥ 5,640
Nagoya - Kyoto ¥ 5,640
Kyoto - Nara (return) ¥ 1,380
Kyoto - Hakone (Odawara station) ¥ 11,950
Odawara - Tokyo ¥ 3,130

For a total of ¥ 31,220 or ¥ 2,920 in savings as the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300.

A visit to Hakone would certainly be a possibility as it is directly on the route Kyoto - Tokyo, you can take the bullet train from Kyoto to Odawara station which is the Shinkansen station for Hakone, from there local transport can be used to explore the area.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

As for the green pass, what are the difference with ordinary pass? Is it worth it?

Also I read about the Hakone free pass from Tokyo and I can top up to take the "romance car". Would it be a better option to go Tokyo first and get the Hakone free pass from there?

I can't take the "romance car" if I go Kyoto>Hakone>Tokyo right?

Thank you.

Hi Again!

The Green Class is basically the equivalent of 1st class train travel, which you may find in other parts of the world.
It is worth considering if you wish to travel in a more quiet and comfortable manner. However ordinary class is good enough for most people. Many people are impressed when they first come to Japan and travel in Ordinary class.
You can find out about all the details of the Green Pass in our Blog Post.

For Hakone, the romance car operated by the Odakyu Hakone company is not covered by the JR Pass and also requires an extra fare if you have to Hakone Free Pass. It is however worth considering if you wish to enjoy the scenic route which it offers. In terms of efficiency, you could use the JR Pass for travel to Hakone (Odawara station), explore the area and then use the Romance car from Hakone to Tokyo.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
