Hello,
Can you please advise me if we should buy a 7 or 14 day pass for the following itinerary. is it better value to use a 7 day pass from day 1-7 and then just buy the extra tickets to use within Tokyo and to go to the airport? We are two adults and two children aged 11 and 9. Thank you.

Day one: Osaka airport-Kyoto
Day 2 Kyoto
Day 3 Kyoto-Arashiyama
Day 4 Kyoto-Himeji-Hiroshima-Kyoto
Day 5 Kyoto-Mishima-Kawaguchi
Day 6 Kawaguchi
Day7 Kawaguchi-Tokyo
Day8 Tokyo (including JR Yamanote line)
Day 9 Tokyo (including JR Yamanote line)
Day 10 Tokyo (including JR Yamanote line)
Day 11 Tokyo (including JR Yamanote line) to Narita

Hello there,

Using a 7 day JR Pass from day 1 to 7 will indeed get you the best value possible. Travel to Hiroshima and Tokyo especially can cost a lot without the help of a JRPass.

Travel within Tokyo is not that costly and I would ticket to buying normal tickets there.

Have a great trip!
Daniel
