Hi! My boyfriend and I are going to Japan for 18 days. We're considering a 14 day rail pass ending with a few days of local sightseeing in Tokyo before flying out. We are ambitious travelers who try to see as much as possible. Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

Day 1: Narita Airport (stay at airport hotel)
Day 2: Hiroshima (activate rail pass, take train to Hiroshima, sleep off jet lag on train!)
Days 3-4: Hiroshima/Osaka
Day 5: Osaka/Kyoto
Days 6-9: Kyoto Area (will take a few day trips in addition to seeing Kyoto)
Day 10: Toyota/Nagoya (The Toyota factory is the only reason we are passing through Toyota)
Day 11: Nagoya/Haconi-Mt. Fuji area
Day 12: Haconi-Mt. Fuju area/Kamakura
Day 13: Kamakura
Day 14: DisneySea
Days 15-18: Tokyo

Hi there!

Great idea to head down to Hiroshima at the start of your trip and travel up country from there. Looks like good pacing - but you may want to spend a little longer around Hakone.

As an extra travel tip, how about a visit to Kinosaki hot spring onsen? It's around 3hrs from Osaka on the Japan Sea coast, and is a fantastic little town with many Onsen, a great atmosphere and routinely described as the best Onsen town in the area of Hyogo. Here's a good forum post with more, and you can also book many onsen online. Here's a good tripadvisor. You are going to stay in Hakone however, so it really depends on if you've had your fill of onsen (personally I can never get enough!).

You may want to take a look at the Naoshima Art island, which is en route up towards Osaka. Here's a forum post explaining more.

Hope this helps
