Hello everyone!

My friend and I have booked a trip to japan from 1st July until 11th July. We are planning on doing a bit of travelling while we're there and we want to buy a 7 day JR pass but we are unsure which one to buy, if any at all.

Here is our itinerary:

1st July - arrive at Kansai international airport, then make our way to Kyoto
2nd July - sightseeing in Kyoto
3rd July - head to Tokyo
4th July - sightseeing in Kyoto
5th July - head to Shiroishi, Miyagi to visit the Fox Village
6th July - head back to Kyoto
7th July - day trip in Nara
8th July - day trip to Osaka
9th-10th July - sightseeing in kyoto
11th July - fly home from Kansai international

We know there are return tickets for the shuttle to and from the airport bus for ¥2500 so we don't mind paying for one of the journeys separately.

Please help!

Thank you

**Sorry, I made a typo. 4th July - sightseeing in Kyoto is wrong, it should be 4th July - sightseeing in Tokyo

Thank you

A 7 day pass would pay off very handsomely - you can activate it from July 3rd and use it to July 9th.

Although if you are seeing Tokyo also, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. What you can do though is after the Kyoto and Nara temples/shrines close about 5PM, you can zip over and see it in the evening. It comes alive at night, and Dotonbori is a must see place for Osaka food and atmosphere:

The night views from atop the Umeda Sky Bldg and Abeno Harukas are tremendous:

Instead on July 8th, you might go see HImeji, which is Japan's finest castle. The multi-year renovations are almost finished.

Hi there,

I would advise a 7 day JR Pass and use it from the 3rd of July until the 9th of July. This way you could make the best savings possible and you would only have to get other tickets for local travel in Kyoto and back to Kansai Airport.

For your arrival, I'd advise an ICOCA + Haruka package, this will give you a discounted ticket to Kyoto and you can use the ICOCA card to cover your local travel later on.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Sorry to bother everyone again, but which trains would be best to get to Tokyo from Kyoto? I am aware that there are some Shinkansen that cannot be boarded with just a JR pass, but I hope we don't have to take the regular trains, as that will take hours! Also, is the pass valid for all regular JR trains within Kyoto and Tokyo?

Thank you!
