  1. Are there discounts for people with disabilities such as those that are wheelchair bound?
  2. Are those people required to make special reservations?

Note: The question was for purchasing the JR Pass and then using it on the Hikari Shinkansen.

Hi there,

Here are some answers for you:

  1. As the JR Pass is already a heavily discounted ticket I'm afraid there are no discounts available for wheelchair users.
  2. JR is very careful to provide good accessibility for all its customers. You should not need to make a special reservation, however please note that there are guidelines on wheelchair size that you will need to be careful to follow (120 centimeters in length/height and no more than 70 centimeters in width).
