Hi there - I am going to Tokyo this Saturday 14 Jan 2017 for 1 week with my 3 children. We are then going to Nozawa Onsen for 1 week. My husband will be joining us for 2 nights in Tokyo and coming to Nozawa as well. It is very confusing to try and find out what travel tickets to use for the week. I was thinking of buying a Suica Card but not sure how much money to put onto it. What would be average cost for each day touring around Tokyo? Then what ticket to I buy to go to Nozawa via the Hokuriku Shinkansen? Thanks, Melissa (Australia)

Hello Melissa,

You can simply buy a normal rail ticket for the Shinkansen between Tokyo and Nozowa onsen. A JR Pass would require more travel in order to be economic.

Suica can be charged everywhere, don't worry about the initial amount you put on it. You can always put more on it, even if you don't have enough to complete the journey. Just go to a Fare Adjustment machine on the station and it will tell you how much more is required.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Melissa,

You can do so at any JR ticket window (at any JR station).
