Hi! I have some questions regarding my trip to Hakone/Lake Kawaguchiko.

1) Is Hakone or Lake kawaguchiko better for viewing of mount fuji? It is my first time to the area so I am not very sure.

2) I will be coming in from osaka and I am still deciding if i should take a shinkansen from osaka to odawara (I hae a valid JR Pass) then local train to hakone area.

OR

go hakone on another day from Shinjuku as my accomdation stay in tokyo is near Shinjuku station.

3) Will it be unwise to go to mount fuji area on NYE? Will it be very crowded?

Please advise, thank you very much!

Hello there,

1.) Both are very nice and have good views on Fuji when the weather is good. Hakone is a bit further away from Fuji but easier to access from Tokyo and also has more to do and see, compared to Kawaguchiko. For more details see: http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/itinerary-tip-mt-fuji

2.) Both are good options. Option one is likely better with the JR Pass, because you don't have any extra travel time.

3.) I don't think so, most people celebrate New Year with their family at home and watch TV. There are firework and there can be masses of people at temples to ring the new year bells but overall it will be pretty relaxed.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
