On our way back from a extended trip to China we (2 adults) are arriving to Tokyo Haneda International Airport Terminal 1 by way of HK Express 00.25 am + 1 on 7.26.15. We are going to stay at Celestine Hotel in Tokyo and leaving 7.27.15 to Handa Japan. Is there a bus to the hotel from airport?

We plan to be in Handa 7.27.15 to 7.28.15. We will visit with officials in Handa.

We would like to visit Kyoto 7.28.15 to 7.29.15.

We think we should spend night in Osaka 7.29.15. We plan to leave from Osaka Japan 7.30.15 at 7:50 am via UA Flight 7952 to Narita and from there to Washington D.C.

What should we consider regarding rail and ground transportation? Does the Japan Rail Pass include sub way Tokyo and train and bus etc. in our travel plan? Is there a better method to travel? What is your advice? Are Hotels offering special rates to holders of Japan Rail Pass? Zman

Hi there,

Starting with arrival at Haneda Airport, there won't be any more train services that time of night. [There's a late night bus service] into Tokyo, the alternative is to take a taxi to your hotel.

As for travel in general, I would stick to buying normal tickets. The JR Pass would be a good option if you used it for a return Tokyo - Osaka but does not pay off for a one way ticket.

The JR Pass is valid on local JR trains in Tokyo but not on the subway.metro.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

I appreciate the feedback.
Questions: By normal tickets do you mean one way tickets from one station to another (Tokyo to Handa)?
Should we wait to purchase these tickets in Japan or buy in advance in US online?

Hi,
By normal tickets, he means to go anywhere. A JR Pass simply is not cost effective for your plans. However, there are some regional passes you might look into, such as a 500 yen bus day pass for within Kyoto. If this is your first time in Japan, then half a day in nearby Nara is very worthwhile as well. The Todaiji Great Buddha is a must see place.
For going to Kansai Int'l Airport from Osaka, a 1000 yen bus can save you some good money too.

Hi again!

I mean tickets that you would buy when you don't use a pass. Just like going to a ticket machine or ticket office and buy them there before boarding the train.

You can purchase them once in Japan, it is not necessary to do so in advance and hard to do outside of Japan.
