Hi. We're visiting Japan for 7 days and I have questions regarding public transportation.

  1. I'd like to know if all these routes would be covered by the JR Pass.

    1. Narita Airport to Tokyo
    2. Tokyo to Kyoto
    3. Kyoto to Osaka
    4. Osaka to Tokyo
    5. Tokyo to Narita Airport
  2. Is there like a PASMO counterpart for Kyoto and Osaka?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi there!

1.) Yes the JR Pass covers all of these! You can use the Narita Express to travel to Narita Airport and the Hikari Super Express Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka. In addition it also covers the local JR network in both Tokyo and Osaka.

2.) PASMO or any other IC card are valid nation wide as of March 2013. This means that you can also use your PASMO card in both Osaka and Kyoto.

I hope this helps!

The way I understand what I've read, seat reservation is free with JR Pass, is that correct? If so, how and when do we reserve our seats? We're travelling with 2 kids so we obviously need to reserve seats to ensure their comfort.
