I will visit Japan in 8 - 20 Nov 2014, for business trip. But maybe I don't have time to go sightseeing until 13 November 2014. So, it is better for me to buy JR Pass for 14 days, or 7 days are enough?
For 15-20 Nov, I will stay at somewhere around Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, if I want to go to Hakone, is that enough to use my JR Pass or should I buy another ticket? Also if I want to go to Kyoto, should I buy another ticket?

Do you have any recommendations for :
1. the nearest views I could reach by walk from my hotel in the night?
2. the places I could visit in Kyoto for 1 day trip only?

Thanks before

Hi there,

The JR Pass be a very good match to your itinerary. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka on the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. You can also use the JR Pass to take the Bullet train from Tokyo station to Odawara station, which is the Shinkansen station for Hakone (from there non-JR transport runs throughout the area).

1.) You could walk around Ginza, Yurakucho and visit Ueno park. All are very beautiful sights at night. I would also recommend going to Shinjuku and go up the Governmental Metropolis Building, it's free entrance and you can view the entire Tokyo Skyline.

2.) I would head to Fushimi Inari first, then to Kyomizudera, followed by Goin then walk into Kyoto center from there, visit Nishiki market. This will give you some of the best views and experiences of Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel for the reply.

So, basically, it is possible to have 1 day trip to Kyoto (from Tokyo) and I can use this JR Pass for Tokyo -- Kyoto - Tokyo, right?
