Hello
I am traveling to japan for the first time, and hardly know anything about the country. I have booked a flight from Toronto, Canada, to arrive at Narita Int, Tokyo on Oct 1, 4:00 pm, and will depart back to Toronto from Narita on Oct 29, 11:10 am.

This is all good, however now i need to take the bullet train to Osaka. How does the bullet train work? Do i book it in advanced as a round trip like an airplane ticket? What are these 7, 14, and 21 Day Passes? Do i have to book it in advanced or can i just walk into the station the day of and purchase my ticket much like the GO Train in Toronto?

Please help me on my endeavours of Japan. :)

Warmly

Hi Ben Mazor,

In general, taking a bullet train or any other train in Japan is simple. Just got to the station, get a seat reservation if you like at board the train. There are many seats available and most of the time it is fine to just show up and take a seat as you like. No need to reserve a ticket in advance. I've never purchased a train ticket in Toronto, so I could not tell you how it works there. However it all works well in Japan.

As for the JR Pass, you can purchase a 7, 14 or 21 day JR Pass that allows for unlimited train travel within this period. They offer very good value if you plan on exploring different regions in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank-you that was very helpful. One last question.
What am I expected to pay on a one time fare?
I'm going in with limited funds so the 7day pass may not be ideal for me.
