Best travel for Tokyo - Mt Fuji - Osaka

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend are going to be heading from Tokyo to Mt Fuji, climbing and staying overnight then heading back down and across to Osaka. We're doing this in September if that is a factor for anything.

Each place I check online seems to say a different way is the best to do for each leg of the journey so I'm struggling to work out which is the best to go for.

We're staying overnight at Goraikoukan (https://www.goraikoukan.jp/english/) so just need to make sure we're at the best place to start for climbing Fuji. What is the best method to take from Tokyo to Mt Fuji for this? Would it be by rail and if so which stations are best to go for?

Also need to know the same for getting to Osaka after as I've seen this can take up to 6 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I was reading the website from Goraikoukan but I can't really give better advise than there's already on the website. There are two approaches you can use to Goraikoukan, one via Kawaguchiko and one via Gotemba. The JR Pass covers travel to Gotemba, so that would be the slightly cheaper option, however Kawaguchiko is more popular.

I would travel via Gotemba for the trip to Osaka, as its closer to the Tokaido Shinkansen, which gets you to Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel.

Are you aware of how viable it is to descend Fuji down the Gotemba trail as a first time hiker as I imagine that would save time/hassle on getting to Gotemba for the train?
