7 days jr pass worth it?

7 days JR pass worth it?

Hi
i and my boyfriend will go to Japan for 8 days at the end of October and first weeks of November.
our plan is Oct 26 to Oct 30 in Tokyo
Oct 30 we are moving to Osaka and coming back to Tokyo on Nov1.
and we are going to Narita Airport on Nov 2 to head back to Canada.

On Oct 27 or 29, we are going to Hakone for day drip.
we are thinking to go by Shinkansen, tokyo to Odawara station.

my questions is is it better to take Romancecar since we do not know how to get to Hakone sightseeing area?

or JR Pass covers local train in Hakone?
Thinking to go to Togendai, Ashinoko, Owakudani, Sounzan, Gora. and if we have time, we would love to stay 2 hours in
Hot spring bath and coming back to Tokyo at night.

in Osaka, we will go by Shinkansen as well but JR Pass covers local train and bus as well in Osaka?
we are staying near Namba station.

Thank you so much!

Kim

Hello Kim,

Yes, a 7 day JR Pass will be well worth it if you include travel to Osaka and back to Tokyo in its validity period.

For access to Hakone, it makes sense to use the JR Pass and take the Shinkansen to Odawara station. Odwara is sort of the gateway station to explore the Hakone area and you can also buy a Hakone Free Pass there if you wish.

Find out how to navigate Hakone here.

The JR Pass also covers the local JR Network in Osaka and has its own JR station at Namba (called JR-Namba).

Hope this helps,
Daniel
