17 Sept Osaka to Takayama (Do I have time to detour here?)

Takayama to Ikebukuro

18 Sept Ikebukuro to Tsukiji

Tsukiji to Ginza

19 Sept Ikebukuro to Nikko (

Nikko to Hachioji

20 Sept Ikebukuro to Senjoji

Hachioji to Osaka

I may need a budget accomodation near Kansai airport so I can save a bit of cost. Could you recommend? Thank you~)

Daughter’s Itinerary (I am getting 7 days JR Pass for her before she fly to Japan) She will be staying in Hachioji for 5 weeks for a study attachement) We will like to meet for the Osaka trip and meeting her in Tokyo. Whereelse can we visit in the evening.

Hi there!

Here are some thoughts:

Regarding visiting Takayama on the trip to Ikebukuro from Osaka: Here is your proposed itinerary on the 17th. As you can see the proposed travel will take 9h15m, leaving at 9:30am and arriving at 6:45 - it doesn't leave a lot of time for sightseeing in Takayama :)
Budget hotels. I'm not sure about what range you are looking at, but the Toyoko inn chain has pretty reliable rooms for ¥6000-7000 per night depending on location. As always, tripadvisor can be a great resource.
Daughters entry status. Please note the JR Pass can only be used for holders of the temporary visitor visa. Your daugher may well enter under this but it's worth checking with her place of study first.
Weekend trip. I think I'd recommend a trip to a Japanese hot spring or "onsen" while you are in the country. A good weekend trip which combines hot spring baths and great views of Mt Fuji is the Hakone five lakes area. You can buy a 2 dap pass for this from Tokyo called the Hakone Free Pass.
