Validity dateI'm just about to buy my pass, but am confused by the 'date of use?' question. I understood the clock started ticking from the date I first used the pass. I'll be arriving in Japan on 15 March, but not sure whether I'll use the pass that day, or 16 March, or possibly not until 17 March. If I put '15 March' on the booking form but don't start using it until 17 March, does it run for 14 days from 15th, or 14 days from 17th? This matters to me as I'm staying in Japan for just over two weeks, but not long enough to justify a 21 day pass! Many thanks |

Hi there, The Japan Rail Pass can only be activated up to 3 months from the date of purchase. Because of this we ask for an approximate date of first use to ensure the use of the rail pass will be within it's valid period. As the date you enter is not marked on your rail pass you are free to activate it anytime within 3 months from the date of purchase. (eg, it's really a check to ensure you can use it rather than a definite date set in stone). Hope this helps! |
