Which lines does NOT the JRPASS cover?
Which lines does the JRPASS cover?
Japan has one of the busiest rail systems on the planet, but don’t worry, it’s actually quite simple to understand if you know following rules.
Your Japan Rail Pass only covers the Japan Railway network (JR).There are many other railway companies operating rail systems in Japan. JR is the largest train company and covers travel around the whole of Japan using the world famous bullet trains. Subways, Metros, and non JR trains are not covered by the Japan rail pass.
- If you find a JR sign, in most cases you will be able to use the trains.
- Bullet trains – all bullet trains are run by Japan Railway. You can use most of the bullet trains except the Nozomi and Mizuho.
Useful tools to identify which destinations are covered by the JRPass.
Our JRPASS Map covers all JR stations. You can click or search your stations on our JRPASS Map. If you are not able to find the station using our map, it is probably not JR stations and the Japan rail pass does not cover it. You need to purchase non JR ticket to get there.
Use the Hyperdia website to check train routes, schedules and prices. You can use only JR options using Hyperdia too. WE have a short video how to use Hyperdia for Japan rail pass holders here.
